Be aware when receiving email.

As of late McLean Data Solutions has observed a dramatic increase in the number of clients receiving email from what appear to be “known senders” with minimal content which is usually a link to a website containing nefarious content or an attachment that is unsafe. There is no real message from the sender who looks to be familiar. Be doubly sure not to click on any external link in an email even though it comes from a name you recognize. In these spoofed emails if you hover over the senders name you will see that the email address is not correct. How does this email arrive in your mailbox? The reality is that you receive these emails from someone you know who may been hacked, the hacker then copies all the contacts from your friend or coworkers email contacts lists and presents email to you from a name you recognize even though the underlying email address is someone you don’t know. Always be suspicious of email when the verbiage seems odd. Even though this seems obvious to most we all run the risk of dropping our guards, always remain vigilant and aware to protect your data as well as making sure to run quality, up to date antivirus.
