Protect your security.

Everyone loves the convenience of the web, from our email to banking to paying bills etc. McLean Data Solutions recommends you take notice of the fact that while this is convenient it also puts you in the role of security administrator for access to your most valuable information. Accounts are compromised everyday, often without the users knowledge, enhance your security by following a few simple rules:

*Use a complex password consisting of a combination of ALL of these: upper and lowercase letters/numbers/special characters - don’t use the same password for accessing multiple accounts.

*
When asked to create security questions like “what is your high school mascot?”….. DO NOT answer those questions correctly, instead make a list of incorrect answers for those security questions, in this day of social media hackers can gather information about where you went to school, what street you grew up on etc. This is no longer a secure way to ensure account ownership.

*
Many accounts allow you to enable a security feature which requires a code be sent via text to your phone for password recovery or account access, McLean Data Solutions embraces this whenever possible, it ensures your access can always be verified from a single source rather than a series of archaic security measures or a simple “send a password reset link to my email”, what if your email has been compromised? Be diligent, even as a casual computer user the reality is you’ve taken on the role of security administrator for all your online activity.
